sty|lus «STY luhs», noun, plural -lus|es or -li.
1. a pointed instrument for writing on wax or a waxlike surface, as a mimeograph stencil; style.
2. a) a phonograph needle: »

 b) a needlelike device for cutting the sound grooves in a phonograph record. The record then can either by played back by itself or used as a mold to make other records.
3. the lightweight pen that records lines on a moving drum or chart on an oscillograph, galvanometer, or the like.
4. a V-shaped tool used in electronic engraving to cut or burn lines or dots into a metal or plastic.
5. Botany, Zoology. a style.
